2018 St. Jude’s Dream House in Baton Rouge is Ready to Tour!
St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital is a national treasure. This organization treats young cancer patients, at no cost, as well as leading the way in cancer research. Since its founding in 1962, St. Jude has dramatically improved the childhood cancer survival rate, from 20% to more than 80%. The goal is 100%.
Alvarez Construction Company is proud to contribute to St. Jude, and is once again building a new home that will be raffled off, with all of the proceeds going to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. And we’re pleased to announce that the 2018 St. Jude Dream Home in Baton Rouge is ready to tour!
Since 1999, Alvarez Construction Company has built and donated a new home to benefit St. Jude. To date, these efforts have raised more than $20 million. Our team—including tradespeople, sponsors and vendors—came together, as always, to create this stunning, 3,100-square-foot home.
The home is situated on a cul-de-sac lot, affording plenty of privacy, along with the great view. Located in the Santa Maria subdivision in Baton Rouge, the St. Jude Dream Home includes five bedroom and four full baths.
The design features the spacious, open concept in the main living areas, enhanced with 11-foot ceilings on the first floor. The gourmet kitchen is beautifully appointed with granite countertops, waterfall island, and Bosch appliances. The second floor has an exterior balcony that affords a great view of the community’s private golf course.
St. Jude’s cause is dear to the Alvarez family. Jairo Alvarez, the company’s founder, battled prostate cancer, even winning a bike race just 95 days after extensive surgery. Jairo wasn’t a stranger to challenges. He came to America from Colombia when he was 25 years old, with just $100 in his pocket. Jairo had served in the Presidential Guard in his home country, protecting Colombia’s president, and helping to avert a coup that would have brought dictatorship back to his country. Jairo, a cycling gold medalist in the Senior Olympics, always confronted every situation, one at a time. He also built a construction company that became one of the largest homebuilders in Louisiana.
Jairo’s autobiography, “No Such Thing as Impossible: From Adversity to Triumph”, presents the inspiring story. Sadly, Jairo passed away from prostate cancer in 2014, but his powerful spirit continues to guide the family and the Alvarez Construction team!
