New home construction in the three-parish area fell 15 percent last year, as low demand and tight credit dampened building activity for yet another year since the nation’s financial crisis. Still local builders are hopeful 2012 will level off somewhat as the economy begins to show signs of life and home sales gain traction.
“It feels like it’s almost stable now,” said Sean Sullivan, owner of Denham Springs-based DSLD Homes. “I think this year will be up over last year from the beginning, but we’re not going to see a dramatic increase in permits.”
