Holiday Events for the Whole Family

The holiday season is in full swing, and at Alvarez Construction, we can’t wait to take part in all of the incredible holiday events our community has to offer. Read on to see which events you’ll want to mark your calendar for in order to fully enjoy this month of festivities.

Stroll through the Christmas lights

Nothing says the holiday season is here more than Christmas lights lining the city streets or tree lined roads. For a night that the whole family is sure to love, head over to BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo for Zoo Lights. Every night from 5:30 until 8 p.m. stroll through the incredible illuminated sculptures on display before the event ends on December 30. This year, the zoo is once again partnering with The Greater Baton Rouge Food Bank, so bring a non-perishable food item with you to the event and get 50% off of your ticket price.

The Festival of the Bonfires is another event you won’t want to miss. The celebration at St. James Parish will take place on December 10, 11 and 12. Each night, enjoy the spectacle of the bonfire lighting and hang around to take full advantage of the food, entertainment, crafts, carnival rides and more the event has to offer.

Up until January 2, you’ll be able to hop in the car and drive through the twinkling light show taking place at the Celebration in the Oaks. When you’ve finished admiring the Christmas decor, enjoy the rest of your night spent at the Carousel Gardens Amusement Park. If you’re in need of even more holiday cheer, you can always take a look through the Louisiana Holiday Trail of Lights to plan out your perfect holiday road trip.

Enjoy the plethora of festivals and parades

If one night of holiday cheer isn’t enough for you, check out the Natchitoches Christmas Festival— a six week winter extravaganza. Before the celebration ends on January 6, enjoy the lights, parade, fireworks and more the event has to offer.

From December 17 through 22 and 25 through 30, take a minute to visit the city of New Orleans for the NOLA Christmas fest. Enjoy the rides, giant ice slide and ice-skating rink for a day your entire family is sure to love.

On Saturday, December 11 at 5:30 p.m. get a good viewing spot for the incredible floats and musical performances happening at the Kiwanis Christmas Parade in downtown Baton Rouge.

Watch all of your holiday favorites

After an incredible morning spent Ice Skating on the River, sometimes the only thing you want to do is sit back and enjoy a classic Christmas show. If you’re free on December 18 or 19 from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. the Raising Cane’s River Center Ballroom will be showing The Nutcracker: A Tale from the Bayou.

Or, for an evening full of laughs, invite your friends and family to the Let it Sneaux Movie in the Park: Lovett event on December 17 from 6pm-9pm for a showing of the classic movie, Elf.

Catch up with Santa Claus

What rounds out a Christmas holiday activity list more than seeing Santa Claus himself? Nothing we can think of. Join our Alvarez Construction team for our Christmas in the Park event on December 11. From 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. grab some holiday treats and hot cocoa and walk through our Parks at Water Works Community before ending the day with a picture with Santa.
