Meet Matthew Petty, The First Connection to Alvarez Construction
Many homebuyers start their new home search online. When looking to build or buy a new construction home, the path to purchase leads them to a homebuilder’s website. In the Baton Rouge area, these buyers often come our way. When they do, they’re going to meet Matthew Petty, the first connection to Alvarez Construction Company.
Matthew is our Online Sales Counselor: a new role for us, but something he was clearly already skilled to manage quite nicely. As our OSC, Matthew helps people who come to us online. He’s the one who offers answers to all sorts of questions, like “Can I make changes to a home that’s already under construction?” and “How far is that neighborhood from the school?” It’s his job to know everything about our homes, communities, process, and opportunities. And if Matthew doesn’t know the answer immediately, he finds it pretty fast.
“We’ve all become accustomed to getting fast answers. I’m no exception to wanting that as well. So, I’m very diligent at making sure our customers have the information they need, as quickly as I can possibly get it,” says Matthew, a native of nearby Gonzales, Louisiana.
Being a resource comes naturally for him. “I truly enjoy answering questions with first-time buyers and even getting to know a little more information about the family if I am working with a realtor.”
Matthew guides prospective buyers through the initial steps of identifying what they want in a home and community and then steering them to the right fit. When they’re ready to move on to purchasing a new home from Alvarez Construction Company, Matthew introduces the buyers to a sales manager, who will take it from there.
A unique work-life balance
Matthew Petty enjoys another benefit to his job at Alvarez Construction Company. His wife, Banessa, works here as well. Banessa Petty is our Human Resources Director. The newlyweds were married last December, and they’re now expecting their first baby next February.
Matthew says he’s applying his research skills into trying to learn as much as possible about pregnancy and parenthood. It also doesn’t hurt to understand homebuilding when you’re preparing your home to welcome a baby—a project that also occupies Matthew’s time right now.
The new Petty will join a household that also includes the couples’ two dogs: Oliver, a Yorkie puppy they adopted in May, and Mojo, a 7-year-old Chihuahua they rescued a few years ago.
The Pettys are members of a close-knit team at Alvarez Construction Company, but we learned that Matthew is not always such a team player. He and Banessa like their frequent game nights with friends, and apparently Matthew is a tough competitor. “My wife gets upset that I don’t ever let her win,” he proclaimed. The rest of us are wondering how this battle will play out.
Matthew likes to ride his bicycle, but when Baton Rouge weather discourages that activity, he likes relaxing in the hammock in their yard with Banessa and playing with Oliver and Mojo. Life will soon change for the Petty household, but we expect Matthew will be as well-prepared for those challenges as he has been here at Alvarez Construction Company.
