Our Dream Home Raised $1,000,000 for St. Jude!
For the 20th year in a row, Alvarez Construction Company has built a home to benefit a cause that’s very special to us and so many others. Our “Dream Home” raised $1,000,000 for St. Jude. We easily reached our goal of selling every, single one of the 10,000 tickets made available for the annual St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway.
Where the dream began
Our company founder, Jairo Alvarez launched this annual giveaway in 1999. As someone who battled cancer for many years, he embraced the mission of St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. The hospital treats pediatric cancer patients at no charge. Since they began in 1962, St. Jude has seen an improvement of childhood cancer survival rates from just 20% to 80%. Jairo ultimately lost his battle with prostate cancer in 2014, but he spent many years inspiring others to live fully, no matter what obstacles you come across. Just 95 days after major surgery, Jairo got back on a bike and won a cycling race. The “No Such Thing as Impossible” Bike Ride is another of his charitable initiatives, a fundraiser to provide adaptive bikes to disabled children.
Home, dream home
We designed and built this home with every feature we’d want. In fact, our Alvarez Construction Company team members toured the dream home and experienced many jaw-dropping moments of awe and inspiration!
With an estimated value of $735,000, the 2-story St. Jude Dream Home offers 3,400 square feet of outstanding living space. We started with designing a distinctive exterior, one worthy of a home to honor St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
The main floor presents an open layout, where the living room, kitchen, and dining room flow from one to the next without walls. We created a kitchen that hit every item on our checklist, like plenty of beautiful white cabinetry with Shaker-style doors and crown molding at the top. The center island continues the Shaker treatment and features the quartz countertop that is used throughout the kitchen. This oversized island is extended with a breakfast bar for casual meals or a place to seat your kitchen visitors while you’re busily preparing something for them.
We added a custom tile backsplash that is a crowd-pleaser among the dream home’s visitors, along with details like the pot-filler faucet, walk-in pantry, 5-burner gas range, wall-mounted oven and microwave. In the kitchen and throughout the home, we hand-selected the light and plumbing fixtures for the perfect accent to this stunner.
The luxury theme continues everywhere you turn. It’s evident in the custom fireplace surround in the living room, the spa bath in the first-floor master suite, and the theater room on the second floor.
