Things to Do in Baton Rouge With Family This Winter

Baton Rouge, Louisiana has been welcoming people into its community for generations. Whether you’re born and raised here or are new to the area, once you’re here, you’re family. This is probably one of the reasons that Baton Rouge and its suburbs are some of the best places to raise a family in the state!

Zoolights at the Baton Rouge Zoo | 3601 Thomas Rd

This charming trail, running throughout the Zoo, features more than 50 illuminated display sculptures of animals and traditional holiday displays. Runs from November 25 - December 30th.


Ice Skating at Raising Cane’s River Centre | 275 South River Road

From December 16 until January 3, The Raising Cane’s River Center magically transforms into a Winter Wonderland. Ice skating on the river is a fun-filled holiday event for all ages.


Knock Knock Children's Museum | 1900 Dalrymple Drive

This unique museum features hands-on, interactive exhibits where kids learn through play, plus special Holiday Camps during the holiday season.  


Red Stick Revelry (New Year’s Eve Celebration) | Davis Rhorer Plaza

Live entertainment and all kinds of fun culminating in fireworks over the Mississippi River.


Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra | 233 St. Ferdinand Street

In January and February, the Baton Rouge Symphony will host a variety of musical performances, including the string quartet, the percussion ensemble, and the full orchestra playing Berlioz’ Symphonie Fantastique.


Baton Rouge Mardi Gras | Event Locations Vary

Ending on February 21 this year, the Mardi Gras celebrations begin on February 4th. Family-friendly events include traditional floats, fancy balls, marching bands, costumed canines, lawn mower-pushing krewes, and dancing for all! Get there early and snag a front-row seat.
