Baton Rouge

Located along the eastern bank of the Mississippi River lies Baton Rouge, Louisiana’s capital and most-populated city. Residents of Baton Rouge appreciate the beautiful natural surroundings, rich cultural history, a thriving economy and friendly, welcoming neighbors. Alvarez Construction has recognized the appeal of the greater Baton Rouge area for years, and we’re proud to offer new-construction homes and communities throughout some of the most sought-after locations in the metro.

Although Baton Rouge is home to about 225,000 residents, it still feels like a tight-knit community—making it a truly great place to call home. With an exceptionally low cost of living and an abundance of amenities and attractions, families of all shapes and sizes will thrive in the state’s capital.

Employment and Education

Baton Rouge enjoys a strong economy, drawing many working professionals to the city. Major industries include petrochemical production and manufacturing, medical research, higher education, politics, government and transportation. Several large companies are headquartered in Baton Rouge, including Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers and international outdoor advertising company Lamar Advertising.

The city is home to many opportunities for higher education, most notably Louisiana State University—the largest university in Louisiana with over 30,000 students. Another prominent college is Southern University A&M College, the largest historically black university in the country.

A focus on education has an impact on primary and secondary schools in the city, as well. Baton Rouge and its surrounding suburbs are home to above-average school districts that encourage students to excel in academics, athletics and extracurricular activities.

Around Town

Baton Rouge has one of the most diverse populations in the country, which helped shape the city into the culture-driven community it is today. The city has several designated arts and cultural districts, along with a burgeoning performing arts scene. The unique culinary scene in Baton Rouge has made the city a destination for food lovers—the most popular dishes with both residents and visitors include oysters, gumbo, crawfish and Cajun or Creole cuisine.

A well-maintained parks system offers plenty of opportunities to get outside and enjoy nature with family and friends. Whether you want to spend time hiking, biking, fishing or bird-watching, the parks throughout Baton Rouge provide a beautiful space to participate in hobbies.

Most notably, Baton Rouge has over 300 years of history to explore. History buffs will love spending time in various museums and at annual festivals around town.

Alvarez Communities

So many factors contribute to the livability in Baton Rouge, but the actual home and community you reside in can make even more of a difference. Luckily, Alvarez Construction is selling homes and homesites in Oak Colony—an exclusive new-construction community located in the East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools district. Oak Colony’s 148 estate-sized homesites are surrounded by mature trees, over 19 acres of green space, community ponds and sidewalks. Each home will feature a WiFi-enabled SmartHome management hub, which includes a wireless security system, exterior security camera, alarm monitoring and other safety features.
